Rahmat Shoureshi (pronounced Shoe-re-she) is the 9th president of Portland State University. An experienced administrator and innovative academic, Shoureshi is also a mechanical engineer. Prior to PSU, he served as the provost and vice president for academic affairs and interim president for the New York Institute of Technology, which has two campuses in New York, two medical schools, four global campuses and joint degree programs in eight countries. Shoureshi earned a master’s degree and a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is an expert in automation, control systems design, and artificial intelligence, and he holds nine U.S. patents for biomedical and engineering systems, sensors and devices.
