North Carolina Central University is a liberal arts college for African-American students.
When it was established in 1910, North Carolina Central University was
the first public liberal arts college for African-American students.
Since then, this historically black college (HBCU) has developed a reputation
for excellence in academics, research, and cultural awareness. North Carolina Central University is an HBCU.
North Carolina Central University offers more than 100 programs of study
in nearly 30 academic departments. The school offers undergraduate and
graduate degrees. Some of these programs are unique, such as the master’s
degree in Jazz Studies and the bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design.
NCCU also has some joint programs for graduate students. Some of these
include:
* Juris Doctor/Master of Library Science
* Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration
* Master of Business Administration/Master of Information Science
The university provides several sources of financial aid, including
need-based government programs and institutional scholarships. NCCU’s
Alumni Association also offers scholarships. Most of the alumni
scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen, but all NNCU students are
encouraged to apply.
NCCU encourages diversity in its student body. Though it was originally
intended only for African-American students, the college’s admissions are
open to students of all races and ethnicities.
