MEST provides training, investment, and mentoring for aspiring African technology entrepreneurs.
The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology provides training, investment, and mentoring for aspiring African technology entrepreneurs with the goal of creating globally successful companies that create wealth and jobs locally in Africa. The program begins at the campus of the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) in Accra, Ghana, with a rigorous, one year, full-time program. Out of an applicant pool of over 2,500 candidates, MEST selects between 50 to 60 top Ghanaian, Nigerian, Kenyan and South African university graduates to receive comprehensive training across the spectrum of skills required to build successful technology businesses, including software development, product management, finance, marketing, sales, and leadership best practices. After completion of the program, the students (called Entrepreneurs in training – EITs) have an opportunity to pitch a business to the Meltwater Foundation. Successful teams receive a seed round of funding, and are accepted into the MEST Incubator, which offers subsidized facilities, continued education programming, and access to the Foundation's global network of advisers. Incubator teams also enjoy access to a suite of legal, financial, and marketing services.
