Alexander Torbakhov was born on August 22, 1971, in Moscow.

In 1994 he graduated from Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI). In 1997 he graduated from Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO) with qualification of Economist for International Economic Relations. In 2005 he gained an MBA from the Chicago Business School.

Mr Torbakhov started his career in 1995 at the Moscow office of Deloitte & Touche.

In 1997 he joined the Rinako Plus Brokerage Company where he rose from Manager of Management Accounting to the Deputy Financial Director.

In November 1999 he became the Financial Director at NIKoil.

In 2001 he was transferred to the same position at NIKoil Investment and Banking Group where he ran the Finance and Accounting Block.

In February 2002 he was promoted to Chief Executive Officer for Finance Management.

In August 2002 he became the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of NIKoil Investment and Banking Group.

In 2005 he held the post of Vice-President at Rosgosstrakh Holding.

In February 2008 he was appointed CEO of Rosgosstrakh-Zhizn Insurance Company.

From April 2009 to June 2010 he served as CEO at VimpelCom.

In September 2010 he was assigned to the post of Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank for Retail Block.
