Dr. Tyson is a professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at The Ohio State University (OSU) and an expert in teaching about social justice, multiculturalism, and race. Her courses include Multicultural and Equity Studies in Education, Early Childhood Social Studies, and Multicultural Literature for Children and Young Adults. She has presented numerous research papers at national and international conferences, published articles in top academic journals, and authored two books. Dr. Tyson has also won several awards, including the American Educational Research Association’s Mid-Career Award and OSU’s College of Education Diversity Enhancement Award. A former elementary classroom teacher and multicultural education staff development specialist, she has provided expert guidance on urban education and frameworks for teaching for social justice. She has also consulted with universities, school districts, and learning communities across the U.S., U.K., Mali, Ghana, and South Africa.
