Mr. Dermot Fachtna Desmond founded International Investment & Underwriting Limited (IIU) in 1995 and serves as its Chairman. Prior to IIU, Mr. Desmond established a number of software companies serving the financial services sector. He served as the Chairman of NCB, which he founded in 1981. In 1985 he established Financial Courseware Limited. In 1994 Mr. Desmond sold NCB to the National Westminster Bank (now, The Royal Bank of Scotland). In 1984 he founded Quay Financial Software. Before setting up his own company in 1981, he was employed at Citibank; at the Investment Bank of Ireland; and was a Banking Consultant at Price Waterhouse Coopers on a World Bank Project in Afghanistan between 1979 and 1980. He began his career in 1968 working for Citibank Dublin. Mr. Desmond has been a Member of the Council of JSC Rietumu Banka since September 7, 2005. Mr. Desmond was original promoter of the IFSC. He has been Independent Director of Celtic PLC since May 1995. Mr. Desmond is a Board Member of several companies, charities and educational bodies. He is also a Trustee of the Chester Beatty Library and Desmond is Chairman of Respect. He is a board member of several companies, charities and educational bodies.
