Dr. O John Ma began his college education at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1981. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1986 after spending a year abroad at Lancaster University in Lancaster, England, as part of the Junior Year Abroad Scholarship Program. After graduating from 1986 to 1990, he pursued his medical degree at the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington D.C...

Beginning with an internship in internal medicine at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C., from 1990 to 1991, John Ma's postgraduate training was highly diverse. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 1991. From 1993 to 1994, he served as Chief Resident.
