Jillian Banfield currently serves as a Professor at UC Berkeley, the Scientific Director of Microbiology at the Innovative Genomics Institute, and a Co-Founder of Metagenomi. She is one of the world's leading experts in genome-resolved metagenomics, a research method that she and her colleagues have used to discover multiple new CRISPR-Cas systems including CRISPR-CasX and CasY.
