John is Chairman and CEO of SESAC, Inc., a leading music rights organization. He has served as a director of the company since 1992, following its acquisition by Allen & Company Inc. in partnership with an investor group. Rizvi Traverse Management acquired a controlling interest in SESAC in December 2012.

Previously, John was a Managing Director at Allen & Company LLC, a privately-held merchant bank based in New York City, where he was employed from 1987 to 2014. At Allen & Company, John’s focus was the general area of investment banking, including corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, in- and out-of-bankruptcy restructurings, financial advisory services and direct investments. Clients that he worked with included Time Warner Cable, The News Corporation, Time Warner, Sony Corporation of America, AOL, Viacom, Reuters Group and The Chernin Group.

John received an M.B.A. with High Distinction in 1987 from Harvard Business School, where he was elected a George F. Baker Scholar. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree, summa cum laude, from Cornell University in 1983, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
