Vélez studied economics and completed a Masters degree in Computer Science, graduating first in his class. He attended the ECLA programme for Latin American entrepreneurs at the Columbia Business School in New York, with an emphasis on operations and operational excellence. He is one of the founders of Pagosonline – a payments company originally from Colombia, which was later acquired by Naspers and became part of PayU. In 2011, he was selected as an Endeavour Entrepreneur and in 2012 won the MIT’s TR35 Award – a token of recognition for young and innovative entrepreneurs.
