Rebekah Brooks was appointed Chief Executive of News UK in September 2015.Rebekah joined the company in 1989 as a feature writer for the News of the World’s Sunday magazine and rose through the ranks to become Editor of The Sun in 2003, a role she held until July 2009. During this time The Sun extended its number one position in the popular sector in the UK, growing its share in both circulation and reach. Rebekah was the driving force behind a number of major military and domestic violence campaigns by The Sun, including support for the launch of Help for Heroes and spearheading the campaign that led to the introduction of ‘Sarah’s Law’.From 2009 to 2011, she served as Chief Executive of News International, during which time there was significant growth in newspaper operating profit, and The Times was a pioneer in paid-for digital subscriptions.Born in Warrington, she attended the local comprehensive school and took her first job in journalism at the town’s newspaper, the Warrington Guardian.
