Sabine Maaßen was born in Dinslaken in 1966. She completed her law studies at the University of Mainz and the University of Dijon with the Second Legal State Exam, followed by a postgraduate master of European studies program (M.E.S.) at the technical university of Aachen. She obtained her doctorate (Dr. jur.) from Frankfurt University.After her law internship, she was active as attorney-at-law since 1995. From 2001 to 2002, she was employed at DGB Rechtsschutz GmbH in Krefeld and subsequently at the IG Metall Administrative Office in Duisburg-Dinslaken. In 2005, she moved to the section for labor management and labor law at the IG Metall Board of Management in Frankfurt am Main. Since 2008, she has been active in the legal department of the IG-Metall Board of Management.Moreover, since 2011, she has been active as member of the Supervisory Board of ThyssenKrupp AG and member of the Board of Trustees of the Hans-Böckler-Stiftung.
