Sergey Gorkov was born on December 1, 1968, in Orenburg Region.

In 1994 he graduated from the Academy of the Federal Counter-Intelligence Service of Russia, Plekhanov Russian Academy of Economics. Sergey Gorkov is a qualified lawyer and economist, proficient in Arabic and English.

From 1994 to 1997 he headed the HR Department at Menatep Bank.

During the period from 1997 to 2005 he worked at Yukos and Yukos Moscow oil companies, heading the HR Department.

In 2003-2005 he was Vice-President for Human Resources Policy and Organisational Activity of Yukos Moscow.

In 2005–2008 he was a member of the Board of Directors at Fesco Transportation Group.

In 2008 he joined Sberbank of Russia as head of the HR Policy Department.

In October 2010 he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Board for International Business.

Since October 2012 he has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of subsidiary bank Sberbank of Russia in Kazakhstan.
