Williams is a family physician, entrepreneur, former CMIO and consulting executive and he most recently was the founder of Clinovations and former Managing Partner at the Advisory Board. In 2017, Dr. Williams founded a new company Socially Determined in order to create a service-enabled technology platform that integrates the social determinants of health with clinical data through the use of comprehensive care pathways and advanced analytics. With more than 20 years of healthcare experience, Dr. Williams’ unique perspective is formed at the intersection of healthcare and technology. He has an extensive understanding and knowledge in the implementation of healthcare technology, clinical process redesign, consumer market strategy development, and clinical adoption strategy development for leading hospital systems here in the United States and around the world. He has authored and edited several articles and books including: EHR for Dummies and Improving Medication Use and Outcomes with Clinical Decision Support: A Step-by-Step Guide, which received the 2009 HIMSS Book of the Year Award. Prior to starting Socially Determined and Clinovations, Dr. Williams led and supported engagements for Advanced Clinical Information Systems Implementations in both Inpatient and Ambulatory organizations. His expertise has helped organizations implement and optimize Computerized Physician Order Entries and develop strategies for achieving clinical, operational, and financial return on investment. Dr. Williams spent time in England working with the National Health Service to develop the national benefits that will measure every hospital in the country. He also helped healthcare communities redesign clinical care pathways for specific disease states in order to deliver improved and more efficient care. Dr. Williams’s subject matter expertise has helped clients develop physician adoption and clinical transformation methodologies and organize and motivate their clinical staffs during implementations. During these projects he worked side by side with clients to design and implement new governance structures, clinical content management strategies, clinician training plans and clinical workflow redesign efforts. Before beginning his consulting career, Dr. Williams was the medical director of Family Practice at Mammoth Hospital in California. He also served as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Naval Reserve.
