Vasanth 'Vasi' Philomin is currently a General Manager in the AWS AI team for services in the language and speech technologies spaces such as Amazon Lex, Amazon Polly, Amazon Translate, Amazon Transcribe and Amazon Comprehend/Amazon Comprehend Medical. Prior to joining Amazon, he spent most of his career creating new high-tech businesses inside Philips as part of the corporate venturing strategy of the company aimed at organic growth.

During this time, he held various management positions across all functions including General Management, Business Development, Marketing and R&D over the last 17 years and was responsible for creating a global connected lighting systems business focused on public sector customers. He is an entrepreneur at heart and has a very deep understanding of the software and services industry. This coupled with his ability to innovate on business models has helped him make valuable contributions to diverse businesses covering areas such as Robotics and 3D content creation for cinema.

He is also an inspirational speaker and often speaks at various events and conferences around the world on hot new technology and business trends. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and two Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park, USA as well as 72 US patents.
