Javier Arrigunaga was named Chief Executive Officer of Mexico for Citi following service as CEO of Grupo Financiero Banamex.

Javier is a member of the Banamex Executive Commission. He is director of the board of Grupo Financiero Banamex and Banco Nacional de Mexico, Acciones y Valores Banamex (Brokerage House), Aeromexico (Mexico's flagship airline) and the Universidad Iberoamericana.

Before joining Citi/Banamex in 2002, Javier Arrigunaga was the Ambassador of Mexico to the OECD in Paris. He previously worked for 15 years at Banco de Mexico (Mexico's Central Bank) where he held different positions. Javier was part of the team responsible for the negotiation of the international assistance to support Mexico during the macroeconomic crisis during 1995 and from 1997 he was CEO of the Deposit Insurance Agency responsible for managing the Mexican Banking Crisis.

He holds a law degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana and a master's in law and finance from Columbia University.
